1/I loved all the Modern Sci Fi references. This book had action, humor, storyline as well as suspense..Cant wait to start book 2 hoping some day they make this into a series..
2/The author covers very fast a lot of space, pun intended, and here comes my problem. I lack the depth, the implications of a Bob as an AI, the real discussion of the psychopathic dimensions of an existence as described, etc. There is no real analysis of a society going religious but keeping an highly advanced IT and space project going. No feeling of the political world. And so on, and so on. Lots of places to dive in, but left barely named or not even that. Seemed to me a bit musk-esque in program and execution, fast to expand, slow to reflect and understand. I mean, where is the rush? The Bob is forever and we can always enjoy a good saga.
3/I really enjoyed this book, until the ending.
Because there wasn’t one. It was just another chapter ending that happened to result in running out of pages.
So as long as you’re ready to commit to the series — and it IS a cool idea! Space exploration by a person whose intelligence and personality have been transformed into AI, and copies himself to continue exploration is fascinating, fun and quirky.
