The Sandman Audiobook Reviews:
1/I’ve been a Sandman fan since the 90s and didn’t think it could possibly work as an audio book but wow I was so wrong. It is incredible to listen to– all the actors chosen are spot on, the music and sounds are immersive, and Neil’s narration is perfect. Altogether it makes for an amazing experience, especially joyful if you’re able to read the comic along with listening to it.
2/I had never read any of the graphic novels, but when Alexa offered this up as a free selection, I did a little digging and was impressed by what I read. An ensemble cast, incredible production quality, and a feeling that I wasn’t just listening to an audiobook but sitting in the audience, had me thanking Audible (and Alexa) for turning me on to it.
NOT for the squeamish, definitely adult themed and episodic in nature (as graphic novels are, by their very nature). Perfect for the Halloween season.
3/I don’t typically read fantasy novels and have little patience to follow the world building. But I’ve heard great things about The Sandman series and wanted to try something new, so I picked up a hardcopy of the comic and followed along with the audiobook. The audio performance is a fantastic supplement to the comics and helped me better understand what was happening and kept me more interested in the story. The audio follows very closely to the text in the comics with minor deviations that only improve the clarity of the story. For comic purists, this may sound silly, but I enjoyed simultaneously reading and listening and would recommend to those who struggled to follow either the comics or audiobook standalone.
