1/Female lead character over analyzes and attaching her feelings and opinion to every interaction and encounter. Reminds me of a modern love stories where the girl lead emotes her thoughts and feelings over a brute, harsh boyfriend. The aliens are squid like creatures who act like over controlling Alphas.
The story is really dry. The ship is apparently all organic so no cool tech stuff. The alien culture is basically Japanese based with naming and clan organizations.
Narration was better than the story, I feel the narrator tried her best to make it interesting
2/Premise is somewhat mundane. Aliens on a large organic ship, humanity on the edge of extinction, blah blah blah….The story is ok, but progresses at a snail’s pace. I found myself both bored, and waiting for the next thing to happen. There is NO science anywhere. If you like military sci-fi, dystopian sci-fi, hard sci-fi, space opera, etc. this isn’t for you! Will I read the next book? NO. Will I read other works by this author? Probably not!
3/I’ve loved this book. I had no expectations beyond that I’ve become familiar with the author’s name, but this has been such a great story and I can easily understand why she’s becoming well known!
