1/An excellent true story about doing business in Russia and how that changed under Putin. Bill Browder’s second book, Freezing Order, is a continuation of this story and another “must read”.
2/The story is interesting and it’s too bad it wasn’t written by someone other than Bill Browder. It would have been much better if it were written by a journalist like the book “American Kingpin.” It’s hard to like or care about Bill because there is absolutely nothing he cares more about than money. Yes, there are sections about his personal life but, despite what he says, there is nobody, including his ex-wife, who would believe he puts anything above his career and making money. I like money just as much as everyone else but I wouldn’t wreck my family and put myself and others in mortal danger for it. And it’s also hard to care if his billionaire clients do or do not make more money when they invest in his company.
3/Putin and his government are revealed for the crime syndicate they are, stealing everything in Russia—without remorse, conscience or morality and killing everyone within their grasp. Sergei is Ukraine.
