1/Unfortunately the way that the end of this series was handled sours the rest of it to me.
With how harsh the first book was, I really didn’t expect the end to be so tame. Everyone is perfectly happy and the characters we’re not supposed to like are dead.
The way the two “evil” characters were handled felt especially poor in the third book.
The last few hundred pages really felt like the author simply had to wrap it up as fast as possible.
Unfortunate but still, in total maybe 85% of the series was great, so it’s probably still wort a read!
2/Honestly, I think Robin could write her content with 300 less pages in every book so far (this is my 6th). However, this trilogy paid off so I’m not mad.
3/I love Robin Hobb’s writing so much. This trilogy I had tried to read before, not knowing it was part of a bigger story. I got lost and didn’t continue, until my daughter pointed me to the very beginning, with Fitz. I wanted to skip this trilogy, to continue Fitz’s story instead, but I promised myself I would go in order. And wow—I am forever changed.
