Reviews:

1/I know I’m something like fifteen years late to the party reading this one, but my word this was fun. All the shenanigans. The brilliant world building. The characters. The dialogue. I haven’t enjoyed reading something quite this much in a while, and I’ve been reading a bunch of very fun books.

2/First, I despise the style of prose. It’s long winded and tedious. Second, ala Steven King, it’s too descriptive by half. I do NOT need to have every darned thing described to me. It’s exceedingly boring and does not advance the plot. Speaking of which, the plot was merely ok. It’s obviously based on modern mafia pop culture, which I found to be dull and uninspiring.

This series is on several ‘best of fantasy’ lists and that’s why I bought it. I will never bother with lists ever again and I’d like my money back.

3/Wow, I see what all the hype is about, and I cannot recommend this book/series highly enough. Imagine a heist story like Ocean’s Eleven or The Italian Job, but in a fantasy world similar to our 16th/17th centuries, in a city that sits atop the ruins of another, glass city built by ancient, enigmatic beings. Scheme upon scheme, deception upon deception, conspiracy upon conspiracy, all interlocked with revenge and political machinations. It’s a gorgeously-created world with rich, lively characters, and the prose and witty banter are fantastic.
